Open Standards

Traditionally companies serving the Building Automation Market have developed proprietary, closed platforms that reject interoperability in favor of vendor specific technologies. This myopic view has severely limited the adoption of Smart Building Technologies.

Nimbus 9 embraces open standards. The unifi™ Smart Building Platform is based on the Zigbee wireless protocol with support for Bluetooth Low Energy Beaconing applications. Nimbus 9 has made zero changes to the Zigbee stack’s core capabilities creating extensions only when there exists a gap in functionality.

This commitment to open standards means that a customer owns their hardware investment and can choose to decommission the unifi™ Platform and select another provider that uses the Zigbee protocol.

Hardware & Device Ecosystem

One of the many benefits of the Zigbee Protocol is that as a mature protocol that has been in existence for over 15 years and governed by the Zigbee Alliance there is an expansive ecosystem of hardware manufacturers offering products based on the protocol.

Products carrying the Zigbee Certification conform to the interoperability mandated by the Alliance and to date there are over 2100 certified Zigbee products covering every use case in the “Built Space”. Once again the unifi Platform is designed to interoperate with all of the Zigbee certified products. This interoperability across a large ecosystem means the customer wins. Customers are free to choose those products that they deem most appropriate for their particular use case, aesthetic, form factor, etc. rather than being limited to only Nimbus 9’s product offering.

FREEDOM FROM VENDOR LOCK-IN

While there is massive hype and enthusiasm about the transformational impact of IoT on building operations the reality is that despite their indisputable benefits these technologies are not being adopted en mass. The primary concern throttling the adoption of IoT technologies for Smart Buildings is “vendor lock-in”. Organizations are hesitant to adopt transformational Smart Buildings technologies as most of them are proprietary and prevent the transition away from the incumbent vendor.

Nimbus 9’s unifi™ Smart Building Application platform puts to rest business continuity concerns. While there is no way to completely eliminate Infrastructure Risk associated with Smart Buildings, Nimbus 9 has focused on developing a platform that mitigates the risks of vendor “lock-in” by promoting “Openness” and facilitating actual ownership of smart infrastructure investments.

~~~~ The Nimbus 9 Hardware Ecosystem provides building owners an unrivaled suite of hardware to transform their portfolios from static assets to dynamic Smart Buildings.
